Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a music appreciation teaching strategy for adolescent s emotional development. Adolescence is a period of difficulty in handling and controlling emotions. Thus, emotional education during this period is significant for adolescents to be emotional well-being and socially adaptive. Since listening to music has a direct effect on emotion, it can be used as an effective tool to aware, label, and regulate emotions. In this study first, the theoretical background of adolescent s emotional development and music appreciation is examined. Then, the music appreciation instructional model and teaching methods for adolescent s emotional development are presented. Lastly, an example of a lesson plan was presented based on Debussy s ‘Moonlight’.
