Abstract

This paper adumbrates the current status of Japanese Editions of Korean Classics produced domestically and internationally. Japanese Translation of Korean Classics has been conducted relatively earlier than that of any other target language within the geopolitical, historical context, along with which investigations into the current state of Japanese versions of Korean Classics also has drawn much attention of domestic and foreign researchers. Most of the existing catalogues, however, paid specific attention to only some genres such as novels or tales. When it comes to Korean Classics, too much focus is mainly on translations from Chosŏn Collectanea (朝鮮叢書, Chosŏn Ch'ongsŏ) produced during the colonial period, resulting in a number of significant translations not being included in the existing lists. Even in the case of anthologies, what literary works are included in each is not written in some of the lists. This paper, while supplementing the existing catalogues, aims to conduct an exhaustive investigation into what Korean Classics have been translated and introduced so far, based on which this paper also explores the current state of Japanese translations of Korean Classics by year, work, and translator.
