Abstract

In this study, the economic feasibility of replacing natural aggregates with recycled aggregates and the benefits of using recycled aggregates in actual construction sites were calculated. The economic feasibility of recycled aggregate was reviewed using the cost-benefit ratio analysis method. In order to find out the cost-saving effect of sites using recycled aggregate, a total of 28 sites under construction by Korea Land and Housing Corporation, including residential land, industrial complexes, and roads, were surveyed and the savings effect was analyzed. The results of analyzing the economic feasibility and saving cases of recycled aggregate are as follows. First, as a result of material cost analysis for the last 5 years, it was confirmed that the unit price of recycled aggregate (3,850 won/㎥) was four times cheaper than that of natural aggregate (13,000 won/㎥). As a result of time series B/C ratio analysis considering social cost, the ratio (3.23 in 2017, 3.42 in 2018, 3.60 in 2019, 3.70 in 2020, 3.77 in 2021) increased over time. When recycled aggregates are used instead of natural aggregates, not only basic construction costs but also social costs can be reduced, and it can be confirmed that the effect is more than three times the benefit compared to the input cost. Second, as a result of analyzing the economic feasibility of the sites where recycled aggregate was actually applied, the recycled aggregate usage rate was 54% on average in a total of 28 sites. The total site savings amounted to 4,311,660 thousand won, and it was found that when 100% of natural aggregate was used, there was a 31% reduction effect compared to the construction cost (13,818,657 thousand won).
