Abstract
This article aims to analyze the descriptive logic of the literature about Zhuge Liang, focusing on the keyword as “Northern Expeditionary discourse” which was one of the main elements of Zhuge Liang’s discourse in Joseon period. Examples of the late Joseon Period, which showed the combination between Zhuge Liang’s discourse and the Northern Expedition, included works by Song Si-yeol, Kim Soo-Jeung, and Lee Hyun-il and Lee Sang-jong. The combination of Zhuge Liang’s discourse and the Northern expeditionary discourse is effective in examining the reinterpretation of Chinese portraits such as Zhuge Liang’s portrait, and the such images and related texts were accepted according to the political and cultural conditions of Joseon such as Byeongja Horan. In particular, the second chapter of this article presented and analyzed the examples of late Joseon writers who showed their interpretation and acceptance toward <Go-back-hang(古柏行)> written by Doubo(杜甫) related to context of 『Zhuziyulei(朱子語類)』, which had included Zhu Hui’s preference about Zhu Zhuge Liang. In addition, the Hanju school’s case represented the situation in the early 20th century, which Zhuge Liang was recalled continuously as part of the Joseon’s will to overcome the national crisis and related Zhuge Liang’s images such as illustrations of 『Monggyeon Je Gal Ryang(夢見諸葛亮)』 were generated continuously. Overall, this article’s discussion centered on the Northern expeditionary discourse is significant because the discussion of Zhuge Liang in the late Joseon Period, which had been formed in response to the Qing’s rule, also continued and transformed in the modern period including colonial period.
