대중가요 발성법 연구: 조용필의창밖의 여자중심으로

Abstract

현재 우리가 듣고 즐기는 대중음악의 거의 대부분은 외국의 팝음악에서 비롯된 것 들 있다. 따라서 역사가 짧을뿐더러 그 분야에 대한 연구도 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 특히 가수들의 창법 즉 호흡이나 발성과 관련된 부분은 국악의 창과 성악 발성의 중간에서 그 어느 부분에도 속하지 않는 어중간한 상태에 놓여 있었다. 팝음악이 국내에 들어오면서 우리와는 체격조건이 다른 그들의 노래를 부르기 위해 가수들은 부단히 애를 써야 했으며, 많은 시행착오를 겪었다. 때론 무리한 발성으로 인해 성대가 손상되는 경우도 비일비재 하였다. 가수 조용필은 자신의 한계를 극복하여 가창력을 최대화 시킬 수 있는 해법을 우리의 국악에서 찾았다. 그 대표적인곡이 바로 "창밖의 여자" 인데 이 노래는 조용필의 최고의 히트곡이자 가요발성에 있어 새로운 전환점을 만들어준 곡이다. 본 연구에서는 당시의 시대적, 음악적인 배경 등을 통해 가요계의 전반적인 상황이 어떠했는지를 파악하여 왜 그 노래가 당시엔 획기적인 창법이었는지 그 이유를 제시해 보고자 한다. 또한 "창밖의 여자" 의 곡의 흐름과 감정처리 방법, 테크닉 등을 분석해 봄으로써 호흡과 발성이 어떻게 이루어지고 표현되었는지를 연구해 보도록 하겠다. The Korean pop music people enjoy today is mostly based on the pop music from foreign countries. Therefore, not only is the history very short, but also not much research is done in the Korean pop music field. Especially in terms related with the singing method, in other words the breathing and vocalization of Korean singers, it is difficult to define where it is actually situated. To add a little, it seems as if it is swarming somewhere in the middle of Korean traditional music singing methods and classical music vocalization. As pop music made its way into Korea, Korean singers had to go through many trial and errors to sing the songs of singers that had different physical conditions. Singers getting vocal nodules because of excessive vocalization, was not a surprise at that time. Yongphil Jo, a Korean singer, wanted to overcome his limits and maximize his vocal abilities. He found the answers in Korean traditional music. One of his representative songs, "The lady out the window", is one of Jo's title songs and it is the song that made a turning point in the Korean pop music vocalization. The purpose of this research is to understand the circumstances of Korean pop music through the periodical and musical background of the past and find out why the song (The lady out the window) was such an epochal vocal method at that time. Moreover, this paper covers how the breathing and vocalization is expressed by analyzing the flow, the emotional expressions, and the techniques of "The lady out the window."
