Abstract

Contemporary stage of research in the sphere of personality is characterized by the growing interest to studying emotions. Fear as one of the four basic vital emotions has been extensively studied in the number of aspects: the peculiarities of its manifestation in the emotional states of an individual; types of personal and social fears; psychological determinants of the origin of fears and speci?c ways of their overcoming; the dynamics of progress of the fear on the three stages of its experiencing. Contemporary investigations of the fears experienced by the children of primary school, juvenile age and preadult age students are considered to be the most widely investigated. Comparatively less investigated is the domain of fears, speci?c to the period of young-adulthood, including their psychological determinants and origin, and ways of their overcoming. This paper is speci?cally aimed at studying psychological peculiarities and social situations entailing the development of the fears in the young adulthood. We claim that the emotional states, forms of manifestation of fears, psychological determinants and ways of overcoming fears essentially change as compared with the previous developmental stages in the period of young adulthood. In our opinion it is reasonable to study fear on three stages (according to Chernavskiy A. F.) This comprehensive approach to studying fears can be of theoretical signi?cance and can help to de?ne the practical ways of correcting and preventing fears in the period of young adulthood.
