Abstract

Jeon Tae-il is referred to only as “Labor Yeol-sa” and “Beautiful Youth,” but has various characteristics that cannot be reduced by this alone. Jeon Tae-il is one of them. Jeon Taeil’s life, struggle, and decision are difficult to understand apart from the Christian faith. In particular, in order to accurately understand the process, reason, and meaning of Jeon Tae-il’s decision to be an Self-burning, it is necessary to pay attention to the appearance and qualitative transformation of the Christian faith of Jeon Tae-il as a “Christian Youth.” Jeon Tae-il’s death also provoked contradictory reactions from the Christian world, and in particular, had a great influence on the progressive Christian community. In order to further develop the study on Jeon Tae-il, various characteristics of Jeon Tae-il, which have not been well-represented, need to be actively illuminated in addition to the “Christian youth.”
