Abstract

The article demonstrates that one of the sources of Osip Mandel’štam’s conception of the word and ontological poetic manner is the teaching of Heraclitus about Logos as presented in his poem About Nature. Mandel’štam’s hidden allusions to Heraclitus are revealed in the article, and the specificity of functional interpretation of Heraclitus allusions in the works of the poet in various periods is shown. In relation to these references a number of ideas and tropes of Mandel’štam become clear. For example, the idea of the relationship of the sonic cover of the word to its meaning ; the motif of the word " fluctuation" and at the same time its structural unity ; the method of "reversible metaphor," that is, the identity of the various aspects of its existence.
