Abstract

The article is devoted to analysing the technical text as an object of translation. The technical text is considered as a unit of technical communication, in which the author identifies the basic textual characteristics: coherence, information content, pragmatic orientation and one particular category - technical detalization. This category is a distinctive feature of the technical text and it is at the focus of the researcher’s attention. The analysis was conducted by the material of the corpus of texts of oil and gas subject area (50 texts, the total amount of words - 650 000). The author concludes that the technical text is a complicated multi-level object of translation, the basic category of which is technical detalization and the key function is transfer of knowledge.
