Abstract

60% of the Dongducheon area is a military area, which has been stagnant for over 70 years due to many restrictions on industry and local economy. After the plan to relocate to Pyeongtaek, Korea, the U.S. military, which was in charge of the axis of the Dongducheon local economy, has been withdrawn, further stagnating the local economy and reducing the number of residents in the country. In this study, we propose to rebrand the Dongducheon area by actively utilizing the negative image of Dongducheon as a military area and base village after the relocation of the U.S. troops in Korea. To this end, we propose to re-establish the image of an underdeveloped city by rebranding the local identity of the sacrifice for security, respecting the human rights of women sacrificed in modern history, and revitalizing the birthplace of rock culture.
