Abstract

We have considered the distinctive features of the Siberian School of Landscape Hydrology formed in 1970s –1980s in Irkutsk in the Institute of Geography of Siberia and the Far East of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, especially in respect of basic experimental research, extensive use of hydrological indication methods, basin concept, and landscape/hydrological mapping. The experience of implementing the approach in practical development is stated. It is shown how the landscape-hydrological approach has been successfully applied in the hydrological/morphological analysis of deltas, in flow and hydro/chemical regime simulation in small river basins, in the study of dangerous hydrological processes, in water protection and recreational zoning, and in the atlas mapping of the Baikal region in the past decade.
