Abstract

The purpose of this study is to highlight the importance of the resident participatory park planning and to reflect the needs of the residents at the park planning stage. Two parks in Namwon were selected and a questionnaire survey was conducted on the needs of each park. Based on the surveyed contents, a cross-analysis was conducted to verify the significance according to the characteristics of parks and demographic characteristics. Statistical analysis was conducted according to the importance of each item and the population characteristics of respondents to establish the direction of park development. The direction of the park development was divided into two categories of neighborhood type and tourist area type, and the importance of the five-stage Likert scale analysis was conducted. As a result of the analysis, regardless of the characteristics of the population, the demand for a complex park with a tourist function was very high as for the direction of park creation, but the demand for the service provision as a neighborhood living space was high among residents, whereas the merchants did not want to attract tourists. The demand for revitalization of the local economy is also high. A resident participatory park planning should be implemented through a park plan that reflects various demands according to the characteristics of the population.
