Abstract
Modern globalization processes differentiate in scale and intensity. In this regard, identity problems acquire particular relevance. There is no single definition of “identity” due to the complex nature of the phenomenon. In the article the main attention will be focused on the study of this phenomenon as “lost” identity. In the Indian colonial history, emergence of the “lost” identity is associated with the British colonial policy concerning certain group of Indian society. Modern Anglo-Indian writers explore the specific features of “anglophility” of Indian civil servants and their rejection of the national identity. Kiran Desai in “The Inheritance of Loss” and Arundhati Roy in “The God of Small Things” focus on the negative impact of British policy for former residents of Indian colonies. The writers affirm that anglophiles turn out to be the undesirable anachronisms of post-colonial India.

На початку ХХ сторіччя активізувалися глобалізаційні процеси. Через це модель національної держави частково «поступилася місцем глобальному світовому простору» [10]. У романах Кіран Десаї «Спадщина втрачених» та Арундаті Рой «Бог дрібниць» образи англофілів – судді Джемубхаї Попатлал Пател та Королівського Ентомолога Папаччі – представлені як «небажані анахронізми постколоніальної Індії». Несподіваним також було ставлення англійців до чужинців / жителів колонії, особливо з іншим кольором шкіри. Чужість оточення призводить до неприйняття власної особистості («перестав вважати себе людиною»), що особливо гостро виявилося в запереченні власного тіла: «Колір власної шкіри видавався йому неприродним (...).
