Abstract

With the recent development of technology, exhibitions of new forms and composition methods are being discussed. The trend of modern exhibition is rapidly accepting rapidly developed digital technology and seeking new things. Most of the exhibitions, which were dominated by existing offline activities, have been restricted by COVID-19, and as an alternative to the POST COVID-19 era, non-face-to-face and online trends have spread, and Metaverse, which builds a society in virtual space, has naturally attracted attention. Metaverse has become an indispensable keyword not only in the field of art and culture but also in all fields such as economy and society. The exhibition space using metaverse technology allows users to freely build composition methods and forms according to the purpose of the exhibition, and allows users to build existing exhibitions that were passive and fragmentary. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the flow and limitations of existing exhibitions, and to conduct research on revitalizing exhibition spaces by exploring the current status and possibility of metaverse exhibitions that can overcome limitations. In this study, we will compare and analyze the four types of metaverse through two axes: ‘between simulation and augmented reality’ and ‘intrinsic and extrinsic elements’ to find out which types would be more appropriate to display. Based on these studies, I would like to suggest that the exhibition when the metaverse was introduced is a new paradigm that can overcome the limitations of the existing exhibition.
