Abstract
the institution of exemption from criminal liability has gone through a rather long and difficult path, initially it acted as an integral part of criminal punishment, but during the Soviet period of development of the Russian state, the prerequisites for its isolation as an independent one are already being traced. Gradually forming and receiving its legislative consolidation, by the time the current Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was adopted, the institution of exemption from criminal liability acquired a systematic and structured form, and therefore its legal regulation is contained in a separate chapter.
