Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the self-esteem and self-efficacy of participants in DanceSport as well as the ordinary people who have no experience on DanceSport, and investigate the effect of self-esteem on self-efficacy. To achieve the purpose, this study selected 320 people by purposeful sampling among participants in DanceSport as well as the ordinary persons who have no experience on DanceSport living in Seoul. 297 questionnaires(173 from participation group and 124 from nonparticipating group) were used and the other 23 questionnaires were deemed inappropriate. Analysis of collected data was performed via SPSS 25.0 for Window. Specific statistics methods including descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and simple regression analysis were used. Significance level of all statistical values was α=.05 and Scheffe analysis was conducted for follow-up verification of significance level. With above mentioned purposes and research procedures, there was significant difference in demographic characteristics of study subjects, self-esteem and self-efficacy. First, in the self-esteem and self-efficacy according to the sex of DanceSport participation group and non-participating group, the average of female group was higher that the average of male group, but there was no statistically significant difference in sex. Second, the age of DanceSport participation group and non-participation group had an effect on self-esteem and self-efficacy. The average of group with age over 70 was higher in self-esteem and self-efficacy, and there was statistically significant difference. Third, in the self-esteem and self-efficacy according to participation in DanceSport, the average of participation group was higher than the average of non-participation group, and there was statistically significant difference. Fourth, the self-esteem of DanceSport participants had a positive effect on the self-efficacy.
