The author came to the conclusion that there are serious differences between the Japanese system and similar foreign ones, noting that it has a more severe regime of detention, superbly organized highly productive work activities of convicts, and succeeds in the correction and resocialization of persons in prison. At the same time, the Japanese state policy on the execution of criminal penalties enjoys considerable respect, authority, and is also widely supported by the entire public.
