Abstract

The article highlights the formation of historical science in Russia in the 19th century. The turn of history towards science is associated with the names of prominent representatives of Russian historical school N.M. Karamzin and S.M. Solovyov. The author substantiates the provisions on the methodological foundations of their historical research. For Karamzin, positivism became such a basis, for Solovyov it was rationalism.
