Abstract

This study aims to reflect the meaning of Marriage through the view of the Marriage of St. Ambrose. To identify the view of St. Ambrose, the ‘Matrimonium’ featured in the work of 'Opera omnia di Sant’Ambrogio', which is the trustworthy critical edition is used.
 Saint Ambrose, who is an outstanding spiritual leader and Pastor, had profound understanding and discernment. The word ‘Matrimonium’ is used 20 times in his writing of 10 volumes. Direct quotations from the Bible are 7 times. In this work, not only the literal meaning but also spiritual and mystical meanings are shown well. Above all, St. Ambrose, as a Pastor, had a deep understanding of the difficulties that arose during the Marriage and did not forget that Marriage should always be protected and respected. 1Co. 7.38, which had the most quotation shows St. Ambrose gave high value to Celibacy but did not deny the value of Marriage.
 Marriage is one of the many aspcects of life that enriches the Church. Also has its meaning and noble responsibility. Celibacy is an outstanding way of life, but the Life of Marriage can also lead to Virtue so each one should walk their own life is most important.
