Abstract

The research objectives are as follows: to identify stylistic peculiarities of J. Brahms’s variations on a theme by Schumann, op. 9, to reveal performance problems taking into account the specificity of its meaningful field. The paper shows how R. Schumann’s music influenced artistic peculiarities of J. Brahms’s variations. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that relying on performance analysis the researchers identify the basic performing techniques, performance problems, which makes it possible to reveal composers’ individual style and allows deeper understanding of J. Brahms’s creative intention. The conclusion is made that R. Schumann’s influence manifested itself in the following ways: musical images, musical texture, contrast type, dramaturgy.
