Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to comprehensively analyze the effects of home visits and rehabilitation programs for the elderly living alone, focusing on domestic and international literature. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Research Information Sharing Service databases for articles published between January 2013 and December 2022. We used a search strategy combining the terms “living alone” AND “old adults” AND “rehabilitation” OR “home visit” OR “program.” Six studies were selected based on their relevance to the research question and were evaluated for methodological quality, intervention program method, and effects of home visits and rehabilitation programs. Results: The average PEDro Scale of the papers was 6.6 points, indicating good quality. The home visit and rehabilitation programs included interventions such as exercise programs with telephone counseling and nutrition management programs, integrated play programs, and home visits. Analysis of the six articles revealed significant improvements in mental and physical health in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that home visits and rehabilitation programs can improve mental and physical health in older adults living alone, emphasizing the importance of these interventions tailored to the individual needs of this population. Future research is needed to provide more robust evidence to guide the planning and selection of these customized programs.
