Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that influenced the career barriers and level of career decision of musical instrumental majors in order to provide the useful advice for career development. The results of this study were as following. First, there was no difference between high schoolers and freshmen of college on the level of career decision for the musical instrumentalists, but that of the career decision tended to reduce as years go by. Secondly, the musical instrumentalists who decided their careers showed higher level of career decision than that of others who were undecided. Lastly, the qualitative data indicated that the musical instrumentalists, even successful musicians, tended to be undecidable or gave their goals up as musical instrumentalists because of the limitation of job opportunities as musicians.
