Abstract

David Henry Hwang’s second play The Dance and the Railroad highlights the contributions the Chinese railroad workers made to the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad in the United States. It also sheds light on the forced movement of the Chinese laborers and the constrained mobility coerced upon them. In this paper, these aforementioned themes in Hwang’s play will be examined along with the discussions about movement and mobility.
