Abstract

In this article, there are the results of the study on relationship between civic identity and professional effectiveness in mostly physical kinds of sports. During the study 205 professional sportsmen with qualification, not lower than CMS filled in the questionnaire. The questionnaire included “Civic identity” by A.Tatarko and N.Lebedeva and also “Performance”, “Overtraining and traumatization” invented by the article’s author and “Hardiness” by S.Maddy in adaptation by D.Leontiev questionnaires. The study showed that there is no significant relationship between civic identity and effectiveness in sport. However, there is distinct and significant correlation between civic identity and traumatization and overtraining levels. The analysis of significant differences showed that civic identity is more distinct among women and young male athletes under 22. These results can indicate on importance of civic identity in the beginning of professional sport career when motivation of achievement and obtaining prestige is higher than ever and when the main possibilities and resources for building a career are mostly connected to the country. Also it can signalize on the right choice of patriotic education strategy among younger sportsmen.
