Abstract

There has been an increasing recognition of the benefits derived from the positive functions of urban forest. However we don’t know well as to how extents of the functions are well-delivered to harness the benefits. Therefore this study explores the cases of internal and external urban forest, analysing the trend of policy and the cases according to the functions of urban forest. To address the aim this study employed theme-based analysis and cluster analysis utilising Nvivo. As a result, firstly the policy provided prior data such as function, system, creation and management, and designation of zones for the construction of urban forests laws and related laws, focusing on 「Creation And Management Of Urban Forest Act」. Second, analysing internal and external cases based on the function of urban forests, the purpose of recreation and welfare and ecosystem preservation were outweighted in common. However, it was found that in Korea, the function of urban forests was dispersed in climate protection abroad. Third, analysing the interrelationship of urban forest functions, it was revealed that the pursuit of diversity of urban forest functions and the activation of private participation contributed to the maximisation of urban forest functions at internal and external. Based on these results, domestic policies should present policies to expand climate change response, manage water/flood, strengthen continuous recreation and welfare, expand tree canopy, and revitalise participation of partnership-based stakeholders. This will ultimately contribute to improving the quality of human life and the health of nature through maximising the functions of urban forests.
