Abstract
The paper focuses on the news headlines on popular Bulgarian websites, which are presented as citations/ quotations belonging to famous and/or influential persons (or organizations, institutions) and in which an inaccurate transformation of the original statement can be detected. The texts are analyzed from a linguistic and a pragmatic aspect in order to review some of the current speech tactics, mechanisms and expressions that are used for achieving the desired effect. The paper also attempts to define which of the described characteristics are deliberately used and what is the effect on the process of text reception.
