Abstract

Trading activity has not only economic significance, but also performs a number of social functions. The purpose of the article is to clarify the composition and propose a classification of the social functions of trade. As a result, the composition of the social functions of trade was generalized, clarified and expanded (up to 15 points); their classification according to 11 criteria is proposed (by scale, scope, direction of implementation, implementation environment, level of implementation, degree of manifestation, legal status, form of the result, its measurability, time of receipt, according to the needs being satisfied); the principles of implementing the social functions of trade within the framework of the proposed classification are formulated and disclosed, namely the principles of interconnection and interdependence, inconsistency, dynamism, and relativity. The results obtained form a theoretical basis for further research and practical developments to increase the social effect of trading activities, which, on the one hand, corresponds to the interests of the state and society, and on the other hand, is relevant for trading organizations in the context of the relationship between their social and economic results.
