Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of students and instructors participating in swimming classes by level (beginner, intermediate, advanced). To achieve the research purpose, 15 students (5 beginners, 5 intermediate, 5 advanced) participating in swimming programs by level at a specialized sports center located in Seoul, 3 swimming program leaders (1 beginner, 1 intermediate, 1 advanced) In-depth interviews were conducted twice with a total of 18 people. The results are as follows.BR First, at the national level, a policy for the dissemination of swimming, which has excellent effects on health and physical strength, should be established.BR Second, it is necessary to compose and guide appropriate classes by identifying the internal and external pursuit factors of the students, such as the students’ psychological aspects and externally revealed physical images.BR Third, diversification of swimming classes and customized classes should be developed as soon as possible to satisfy the learning needs of students comprehensively and induce interest.BR Fourth, it is necessary to devise a plan to introduce survival swimming class, which is directly related to human life, into a compulsory education system of public education along with private swimming centers. In addition, it is necessary to continue research and development of swimming classes focusing on the value of sports for life.
