Abstract
This study was conducted to establish a health promotion model to explain health promotion behaviors of hospital nurses and predict risk factors for metabolic syndrome. The subjects of this study were 481 female nurses working at four university hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The data were analyzed SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21 programs. Among the participating nurses, 291 (60.5%) fell within the standard range of metabolic syndrome criteria, and 16 (3.3%) of the total fell within the risk range. Human relationships and nutrition directly affected the risk of metabolic syndrome. Health perception, physical activity and age directly and indirectly affected the risk of metabolic syndrome. The model explained 10.3% of the risk of metabolic syndrome. Therefore, active health promotion strategies are needed to prevent metabolic syndrome. These results may be used as a basis for the development of an intervention program to improve health promoting behavior in hospital nurses.
