Abstract

The article considers how the idea of mimesis and likelihood relates with different types of drama theatre. During the study, the author identifies the stereotype to reduce mimesis to imitation of reality. The paper shows that such a meaning deprives the Aristotelian term of universality, making it relevant only for one of the types of theatre. The research observes fruitfulness of mimesis interpretation, proposed by A. F. Losev, for theatrical studies. This conclusion will be useful for theatre experts and theatre practitioners, who use the notions “mimesis” and “likelihood”.
