Abstract
The article examines the influence of fiction on the formation of the individual’s ethical values and creative thinking. Literary text influences both rational and emotional spheres of consciousness. A talented author forms a reader’s worldview, which determines his life philosophy. That’s why in the post-reconstruction period, those in power try to change ideological orientation of school Literature curriculum so as to form a “civilized consumer”. But universality of national ethical values represented in the Russian classical literature indicates that it’s a hopeless task.
