Abstract
The article discusses a brief history of the emergence and main areas of application of agent-based models. Examples of their practical use are given, including in the field of economics and for modeling business processes. The software and analytical complex «MOBIUS» and the new ambitious project «Digital Earth», supported and implemented by all countries of the BRICS interstate association, are briefly described.
