Abstract

In this paper, we analyzed the current status and implications of vehicles transporting hazardous materials using expressway in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment"s Hazardous Chemicals Transport Plan. Of the 13 EPAs under the Ministry of Environment, five EPAs (including disaster prevention centers) provided data for a specific period. In this study, we analyzed general characteristics, expressway usage status, and reported route correspondence by combining relevant information such as vehicle number, expressway entrance / exit IC name, expressway traffic record, loading item, and loading weight presented in transportation plan. As a result, it can be estimated that an average of 795 hazardous chemical transport vehicles are operated nationwide every day, operating mainly on weekdays rather than weekends, and running about 9.85 times per month per vehicle, carrying an average of 21.85 tons of dangerous substances. As a result, the train traveled an average of 169.83 km. This study is meaningful in that it analyzes traffic characteristics of dangerous goods transport vehicles with actual highway dangerous goods transport data for the first time in Korea. It can be expected to establish a framework for system and policy preparation for road policy makers, road managers, vehicles for transporting dangerous goods, and drivers.
