Abstract

The purpose of this study is to shed light on the patterns and traces of secondary Physical Education teachers" tough lives by reflecting on the causes, factors, and reasons for their grumbles in their professional life or daily life. For this purpose, the investigator conducted a qualitative case study with five Physical Education teachers currently teaching at a middle or high school in Gyeonggi Province. The findings were as follows. First, the factors of secondary Physical Education teachers" grumbles in their professional life derived from their human relations with people they interacted with in school all the time including students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and staff in the administration office. They also experienced grumbles over heavy workloads, unfairness, civil affairs, and athletic club work. In addition, they also had grumbles over the limitations of the barriers in reality, the rigidity of the teaching profession, and social perceptions and reputations. And secondly, secondary Physical Education teachers had grumbles in their professional life to establish a living foundation for their professional life through emotional appeals such as protesting, reflecting, protecting, comforting, recovering, wishing, and finding hope.
