Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the subjective perception of coaches on the concept of coaching. By applying the Q methodology, the perception types and characteristics of each type of coaching were examined. Through this study, we tried to determine how coaches actually perceive coaching beyond the definition of academic coaching. Through this, we tried to prepare a way to narrow the gap between the academic concept and the practical perception of coaching. As a P sample, 33 certified coaches from the Korea Coach Association were selected and 31 statements were Q-sorted. As a result of analyzing the main factors using the Quanl program, the perception of the coaching concept was sorted into four types. The first type was ‘Practical culture emphasis type’, the second type was ‘Good influence expanded type’, the third type was ‘Self-reflection awareness type’, and the fourth type was ‘Realistic tool type’. Through this, it is possible to look at the perception of fundamental coaching in micro and macro aspects and realistic and ideal aspects.
