Abstract

The purpose of this study is to categorize the subjective perceptions of counselors about non-face-to-face counseling, derive the characteristics of each type, and provide them as basic data for developing non-face-to-face counseling services to clients. Q methodology was applied for the purpose of this study. Q-concourse was conducted by literature review sand in-depth interviews of non-face-to-face counseling for counselors, resulting in the final statements which are Q-sample. The P sample participating in the study was 29 counselors. Then, data was analyzed using the QUANL program. Our research results showed four types of perceptions. Type 1 participants believe it is necessary to reduce psychological difficulties in the counseling environment for counselors. Type 2 participants think that customized preparation should be further developed for clients and counselors. Type 3 participants see that the online counseling system is convenient regarding smooth interaction, time utilization, and comfortable environment. Type 4 perceive that counselors need to develop their capabilities of using the technology system. Consequently, the four types’ of perceptions of non-face-to-face counseling were discussed for developing future non-face-to-face counseling.
