Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the role of female pilates programs in elderly women.<BR> Method: In-depth interviews were conducted with 8 elderly women in H City L General Welfare Town.<BR> Results: The results revealed 4 main themes: (a) fears: face their fears with the help of learning breathwork (b) sense of achievement: “ it is hard, but I want to accomplish it! ” (c) sense of belonging: “ I belong and contribute to this group” (d) self-esteem: “ I will overcome adversity in my life as I did today. ”<BR> Conclusion: This study finds that pilates provides opportunities to improve not only physical fitness but also psychological well-being, and helps gain meaning in their lives. Therefore, engagement in pilates plays a vital role in improving the quality of life for elderly women. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.
