Abstract
The study aims to determine the pragmatic load of implicit disagreement within diplomatic discourse. The paper identifies functions of this negative speech act, as well as communicative strategies and tactics used by diplomats when expressing a negative reaction in inexplicit ways. The study is novel in that it is the first to attempt to determine the possible content of implicit disagreement. As a result, it has been found that participants in diplomatic discourse may resort to indirect ways of expressing disagreement in the case of applying not only a cooperative, but also a confrontational strategy.
