Abstract

This study was carried out for the purpose of embodying the direction of urban regeneration based on the problem of reality that the current urban regeneration does not clearly set goals and policy targets. As a research method, we reviewed the cases of Hafen City, Germany, public libraries in Japan, Oxo Tower in London, and Ilde Nantes in France, focusing on the elements of democratic governance. The research site was selected as a practical example of democratic governance based on regionality, community, etc. As a result of the study, the importance of urban regeneration based on regionality was derived from the viewpoint of creating regional competitiveness as an element of physical, economic, and socio-cultural aspects directly related to the living space and living environment of the residents. In addition, it was found that it is an important factor to actively listen to the opinions of the local residents and to reflect them in the recycling project, that is, to actively communicate with the community and raise awareness of the local residents related to the city. The direction of urban regeneration is to go in the direction of nationals who can use democratic governance.
