Abstract
The research aims to examine Neil Gaiman’s prose through the lens of nostalgic discourse. The so-called “lost realm” refers to a person’s past as well as to the past of the society as a whole. Nostalgic discourse of his works is a set of such elements as myth, personal experience and power of imagination. Scientific novelty of the research lies in approaching the study of the fantasy genre from the perspective of a polymorphous emotion turned towards the past. As a result, it was proved that the main function of nostalgic discourse in Gaiman’s creative work is a reparative one in that it represents an attempt, made by a contemporary person, to adapt to the modern world, which is permanently in the state of crisis.
