Abstract

The paper observes the history and present situa-tion of Galician nationalism. The study analyzes the development of the nationalist political movement in the region and shows the results of the 2015–2019 local elections for nationalist parties. Their presence in the local parliaments of Galicia, Catalo-nia, and the Basque Country is compared. Four reasons for the decline of Galician na-tionalism are formulated and explained: economic, migration, historical, and national ones. The author considers the 2018 non-partisan nationalist associa-tions such as the Galician Way and the National Ga-lician Assembly, their goals and projects to unite Galician nationalists. These organiza-tions’ activities are positively assessed as they can contribute to the development of culture, lan-guage, and national identity of the region’s resi-dents, which will fail to lead to outbreaks of separa-tism but will vent existing and future nationalist sentiments in case of low economic develop-ment.
