Abstract

The optimum shapes of vertical double agitators installed in a rectangular tank of sewage disposal plant are numerically investigated to improve the stirring performance. The domestic sewage disposal plant generally consists of three tanks; a bioreactor tank, a phosphorus release tank, and a flow adjustment tank. In each rectangular tank, an agitator is installed. The major role of agitator is blending the sewage and decreasing the dead zone where the sewage sludge is accumulated. The sludge accumulated in the dead zone makes a water rotting. Therefore, the optimum shapes of vertical double agitator are newly designed to reduce the dead zone and to increase the stirring performance. Also, the operating conditions of vertical double agitators are studied to avoid the creation of dead zone in a rectangular tank.
