Abstract
The article examines the original version of the Old Russian “Tale on the Origin of Tobacco” most similar to the archetypal story. Currently, this version includes 28 copies. The original version is represented by three subversions. The paper examines the basic differences between three subversions, provides interpretations, which allow classifying the copies of the original version into groups. The author identifies the copy most similar to the archetypal story - the Russian National Library, Titov collection, 1559. The history of the original text is traced.
