Abstract

 
 
 Purpose of Article is to research of literary translation activities Paisius Velichkovsky in the context of spiritual culture of Ukraine XVIII century. The research methodology includes historical, epistemological, and method of learning sources. Scientific novelty. The author found that Paisius Velichkovsky was the founder of Ukrainian literature ascetic, bringing it to a Ukrainian source monastic education. Thanks to him, the Ukrainian lands first appeared accurate and complete translations of the Church Fathers, which positively affected the spiritual practice of the monks and spiritual life of contemporary Ukraine as a whole. Conclusions. Paisius Velichkovsky virtually monastic life returned to its ancient foundations, it is a real updater Ukrainian religious life and the first Ukrainian monk mentor and leader in the ascetic reading. Translations Paisius Velichkovsky turned the then decline in spirituality spiritual wealth revived monastic life.

Наскільки Паїсій Величковський сумлінно ставився до своєї справи і наскільки відповідальною вважав свою працю перекладу книг отців церкви свідчать наступні його слова з листа до старця Феодосія, його близького друга: «Сего ради и к святыне вашей к преписанию, или к выпечатанию, книги таковыя прислати отнюдь ни единым образом не возмогох, христианскую мою и монашескую совесть насиловати бояся, и устрашался, аки за дело храмлющее и отнюдь несовершенное, вечнаго в день страшнаго суда Божия души моея осуждения» [8]
Паїсій Величковський фактично повернув чернече життя до стародавніх його засад, він є справжнім обновителем українського чернечого життя і першим українським ченцем-наставником і керівником в аскетичному читанні
Summary
Purpose of Article is to research of literary translation activities Paisius Velichkovsky in the context of spiritual culture of Ukraine XVIII century. Значну частину свого життя Паїсій Величковський віддав переписуванню, перекладу і складанню нових творів. Він перекладав твори отців церкви з грецької на ново-церковнословянську мову, бо багато з цих творів були ще не перекладені, або перекладені недосконало.
