Abstract

Child sexual abuse has many different forms and one of the most frequent forms is incest. Children, especially young girls are powerless in the family and society and when they are raped or molested, they have nobody to turn to. Incest is usually perpetrated by father figures – fathers, grandfathers, uncles. And recently, as the divorce rate goes up, young girls are raped by their stepfathers or mothers’ boyfriends. However, society turns a blind eye to this issue and adults should pay attention to this serious matter and correct it to protect children from sexual abuse. The protagonist in the drama Beside Herself had been raped by her father when she was a child, mainly on their trip to or from the zoo. Since then her self was split into two – Eve, a young girl incessantly speaking in a rage and the other self Evelyn, who looks poised on the surface. However, catalyzed by an event, Evelyn finally musters up her courage to confront against her father. After that, Eve helps Evelyn to cleanse herself and her trauma has been healed. The drama encourage the abused mad women to break their silence and to get out of the trauma.
