Abstract
The article shows the importance of Kharkiv as a major financial center of the new industrial region in eastern Ukraine. The author briefly reviews the history of joint stock companies of the city and specifics of Kharkiv exchange, particularly, he determines that it did not become a market for industrial securities transactions which occurred mainly at Brussels and Paris exchanges.
