Abstract

The article talks about the symbolism of the «Three Friends of Winter» in Chinese culture and landscape design. Plum, pine and bamboo are chosen to symbolize friendship, strength and resilience, respectively. Chinese culture is grateful to the poet of the Song Dynasty, Su Dongpo, for creating the image. For a thousand years, this symbol has become an integral part of the artistic worldview of the entire Chinese nation. These plants are often used in Chinese landscape design and are depicted in paintings and ceramic products. The symbolism of the «Three Friends of Winter» has a deep symbolic meaning and is used to convey various emotional wishes on a mental level. Long before Su Dongpo, residents of different parts of the country used these plants in everyday life, medicine, construction, and cooking.
