Abstract

The article deals with the problem of the formation and development of reading skills in primary schoolchildren as a component of functional literacy. The author presents the existing classifications of the considered skills in the methodological literature. The difficulties faced by schoolchildren in the process of analyzing works of different genres, and the reasons that cause them, are determined. Particular attention in the article is paid to the systematic and parallel use of methodological techniques in the lessons of literary reading that contribute to the formation of each reading skill in schoolchildren. The provisions on which the choice of the appropriate method depends are indicated.
