Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the history of the creation and activities of the artistic society «Storm», which existed from 1931 to 1935. The purpose of the article is to study the creative life of Shanghai in the 1930s. The material about four exhibitions held by the union of 30 painters who brought European traditions to the fine arts of China was collected, systematized and analyzed. The article provides some information about the works that were exhibited at the exhibitions and the responses of the audience to them. Particular attention in the study of the artistic life of Shanghai is paid to the work of the painter Pan Xunqing, one of the ideologists of «Storm». For precise understanding of the events conneceted with the activities of the artistic society «Storm», quota-tions from the literary heritage of the master Ni Yide are given.
