Abstract
The article examines the activities of the clergy in the penitentiary probation system of convicts in Russia. The foreign aspects of such activities are considered. The prospects for the development of prison service and probation are noted. The author points out that international best practices in this area, especially those States that have been practicing this form of cooperation for a long time, are extremely necessary. It is shown that the priest within the correctional institution is physically unable to fully perform the tasks assigned to him. Because of this, it becomes necessary to involve his voluntary assistants (lay people) in cooperation. The current Russian legislation does not regulate this issue. Meanwhile, in some European countries, great attention is paid to this. In addition, the prospects for the development of the area of activity under consideration have been determined.
